Festival of Lights

motion graphics

I have always wanted to explore motion graphics and time-based communication. I was finally granted this opportunity when I had the chance to design a title sequence for the Festival of Lights held every winter in Niagara Falls, Ontario. This festival includes lighting displays that span over 5 kilometres in addition to spectacular fireworks and lighting projections on the Falls themselves.

I represented the theme of light by trying to animate light itself and have light draw the elegant letters. I drew inspiration from sparklers and how they are often used to draw light in the dark. After the spark was finished drawing the title, I had it rocket into the sky and subsequently explode into a firework, reflecting the festival itself.

I chose to represent this festival because I feel it reflects my playful and whimsical nature. Also, it has always been one of my favourite festivals and I felt it was a perfect opportunity to infuse my personality into my work.
